Powerful 7.9 magnitude tremor shakes Papau New Guinea

A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.9 struck the coastline of Papau New Guinea on Saturday, triggering tsunami warnings. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (PTWC) said threats passed several hours after the quake. "Based on all available data ... the tsunami threat from this earthquake has now passed," the PTWC said in an update. There were no reports of widespread damage or injuries throughout the area.
