In a recent speech at an event hosted by NYU, outgoing Vice President Joe Biden expressed his displeasure about the past election, calling it ‘ugly’ and ‘divisive’ and saying he was ‘embarrassed’ by it.

Outgoing Vice President Joe Biden recently shared some unflattering thoughts about the recent election.
During a speech at an event hosted by New York University on Thursday, he stated, “This has been a very tough election. It's been ugly, it's been divisive, it's been coarse, it's been dispiriting. And it was more a battle of personalities than it was ideas, in my view.”
He went on to say, “I find myself embarrassed by the nature of the way in which this campaign was conducted...So much for the shining city on the hill.”
Biden also said, “For a lot of folks, it feels as if we’re more divided than we ever have been in our history and that the election brought out the worst in the political system.”
He later pointed out, “Any number of things could be attributed to why my team lost and their team won...but the one thing I think is pretty clear is that there wasn’t much of a discussion of the issues, even in the debates.”
The vice president ended the speech by saying, in part, “We should not remain silent one instant when [the Trump] administration goes after the progressive values we should care about…but we should listen. We should realize, the American people are a lot better than they’re given credit for right now...”
