The past weeks have been filled with talk of future cabinet members and staff, but one very important post has gone largely unmentioned – the first dog.
Having one is a long-standing White House tradition, but it appears the president-elect does not, at this time, own a pet, notes the Washington Post.
Lois Pope, an animal welfare advocate, philanthropist, and a longtime friend of Donald Trump, is on the job and has reportedly selected a candidate.
His name is Patton, a nod to General George S. Patton.
The over two-month-old puppy was formally introduced to the public on Saturday at the Lady in Red Gala, an event held at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
In presenting the young dog, who may someday call 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue his home, Pope said, “Because Patton comes from a military hero service lineage and is a Golden Retriever and Poodle mix, he's loyal, super intelligent, and will make the perfect dog, protector and friend for the President."
According to Hope Hicks, spokesperson for Trump, a final decision on the appointment of a first dog has yet to be made, reports the Washington Post.
