On Sunday night, a roughly 12-foot-deep sinkhole opened up in a San Antonio roadway, resulting in one death and two injuries, reports WOAI.
The individuals harmed were 60-year-old man whose car had fallen into the pit and the woman who saved him.
Dora Linda Nishihara, a deputy with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office, was not as fortunate.
According to WOAI, her car "landed on its roof" when it fell and was quickly filled with water.
Despite hours-long efforts to pull her to safety, she succumbed to the accident.
It is believed the sinkhole formed after a water line buried below the roadway burst, notes KSAT.
