Donald Trump’s chat with Taiwan was ‘Just a phone call’

President-elect Donald Trump’s surrogates on Sunday defended his controversial phone call with Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen. “It was just a phone call. It signals the fact that he accepted a congratulatory call,” senior transition adviser Kellyanne Conway said. Trump had no intention of changing U.S.-China policy — at least not yet, Conway said. Yet, most members of the U.S. diplomatic corps say there are potentially major consequences for a U.S. president or president-elect chatting with Taiwan's leader.
