Illinois Representative Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat, has announced on CNN Friday that he will not attend the inauguration of Donald Trump over claims that the President-elect spews ‘hatred, bigotry and prejudice.’

An Illinois congressman has announced on CNN’s program 'New Day' that he has decided not to attend the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump over claims that he spews “hatred, bigotry and prejudice.”

On Friday, Representative Luis Gutierrez, a Democrat, said about Trump during the interview, “He started his campaign by saying that Mexicans were murderers, rapists, by criminalizing a community….And what did he say, he’s going to build a wall and that all crime and all gangs and everything comes from Mexico and from Latinos. That’s what I heard.”
Gutierrez then told host Alisyn Camerota, “I’m not going to this inauguration. I can't go to this inauguration because he continues to spew hatred, bigotry and prejudice--even after he said he was going to bring us all together, he was going to unify us, but he's not.”
He eventually revealed that his wife had the idea of going instead to the march protesting Trump’s inauguration.
Gutierrez said, “I'm 63 years old in another week...I don't want to turn back the clock to when women were in the kitchen and gays were in the closet and people like me--immigrants and migrants to this community--were told to be quiet and couldn't have a voice.”
