Maori 'Women of Power' Perform Defiant Haka at Standing Rock

Three Maori women performed a haka at the site of protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline on Saturday, November 26, as part of what they said was a call to “the First Nation women of Standing Rock.”Benita Tahuri, Harete Whakatope and Ninakaye Taanetinorau were among a group of six New Zealand residents to visit the site and express solidarity with the Sioux people and environmentalists who oppose construction of the pipeline.
Footage recorded by Maori man Marcus Matawhero Lloyd was shared of their protest, which took place amid severe winter conditions.
The Guardian reported snow had started to fall at Standing Rock as more protesters travel to the site to show support, despite orders to evacuate as temperatures fall.
