Russell Westbrook is now averaging a triple-double for the season

Russell Westbrook has been lighting up the NBA so far this season and is averaging a triple-double through 19 games this season. After dropping an eye-popping stat line (just above average for him) of 27 points, 18 rebounds, and 14 assists against the Knicks on Monday, his season averages are 30.9 points per game, 10.3 rebounds per game and 11.3 assists per game. The NBA saw glimpses of this superhuman-version of Westbrook last season when Kevin Durant was still on the Thunder and out injured but now he is doing it on an almost nightly basis. The only player to ever average a triple-double for the season was Oscar Robertson in the 1961-62 season and that was in a era where the game was played faster and with more possessions per game. The Thunder are 11-8 this season, are currently riding a three game winning streak in large part thanks to Westbrook, who also coincidentally has three straight triple-doubles. Westbrook is now up to eight triple-doubles on the season, the same amount as the rest of the NBA combined, and 45th of his career, tying him for sixth all-time with LeBron James.
