Dictionary.com's word of the year is not what we need right now

Dictionary.com's word of the year is "xenophobia," which says a lot about how things went in 2016. This is how Dictionary.com defines xenophobia: 1. Fear or hatred of foreigners, people from different cultures, or strangers; 2. Fear or dislike of the customs, dress, etc., of people who are culturally different from oneself. Dictionary.com said they chose the word because it was the underlying theme of many major news stories including the 2016 election, the Brexit vote, the Syrian refugee crisis and more. For comparison, Dictionary.com's word of the year for 2015 was "identity" due to strides made in same-sex marriage and equality.
