EL SOBRANTE, CALIFORNIA — A 28-year-old black musician was beaten, robbed and shot dead earlier this month — all because of the color of his skin.

Three white men allegedly killed Will Sims in the early morning of Nov. 12 outside the Capri Club, a pool hall in El Sobrante, California, SFgate.com reported.

Police said Sims had gotten into an altercation with the three men at the pool joint. The suspects are then said to have jumped, robbed and beaten Sims, then unloaded on him as he tried to escape.

An on-patrol officer found Sims lying on the ground at around 2.10 a.m, according to a post on the Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office Facebook page. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Nov. 16, cops arrested and charged Richmond, California man Daniel Porter-Kelly with murder and robbery with enhanced hate-crime charges.

The police are still looking for Hercules man Ray Simons, 32, and Novato resident Daniel Ortega, 31. Ortega’s mother was charged with interfering with the investigation and is being held on a bond of $500,000.

Sims was an accomplished musician with a deep voice and played with a music group known as JAZZ-ology, according to SFgate.com.
