Dutch destroy more than 100K ducks after bird flu outbreak

Approximately 190,000 ducks were destroyed at six farms in the Netherlands following a bird flu outbreak. Throughout this past week, outbreaks of the avian flu have been reported in Denmark, Finland, Germany and Sweden. The strain of virus, which was discovered at a poultry farm in the village Biddinghuizen, about 40 miles east of Amsterdam, is still unknown. Nearly 40 million animals have been slaughtered to contain and prevent outbreaks including swine flu and "mad cow" disease since 1997.
