Cyprus calls for peace as unity talks stall

Thousands of Greek and Turkish Cypriots have held a rally in Nicosia calling for peace. But despite their efforts, the leaders of ethnically divided Cyprus have ended unity talks in Switzerland without agreement.
On Monday evening, youth groups, choirs and non-governmental organisations from both communities gathered for what was seen as an act of cultural unity between Greek and Turkish Cypriots.
Meanwhile in Geneva, the UN-backed negotiations appear to have stalled with no date set for another meeting.
Cyprus has been divided by a UN patrolled ceasefire line for decades. The island was split after a Turkish invasion in 1974 triggered by a brief Greek-inspired coup.
