Sahibzada Sultan Ahmad Ali Sb speaking in a lecture about the importance to follow the practical path of personalities we idealize;
"Today's crisis is bogged in another crisis. The personalities cherished, adolated, idealised and looked up to by us are losing their significance in our practical lives. Our love for them is only skin deep and limited to empty boasts of love and loyalty. The love that demands faithful imitation of these role models is a far cry from this kind of empty talk. We may take up the example of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A). He is the one whose pre-eminence hardly needs a proof. When he rides the back of the Prophet (PBUH), the Prophet (PBUH) prolongs his 'sajdah', prostration before God, he sits on the shoulder of the Prophet (PBUH) and he is referred to as the rider, and he manages his ride by pulling at the locks of the Prophet (PBUH). He takes the liberty of converting the chest of the Prophet (PBUH) to his play ground. And still, when the time comes he offers his life in the way of Allah. Holding all these perks and privileges, he doesn't desist from sacrificing himself at the crucial moment for the survival of the religion, and ultimately does sacrifice more than his everything to save it. Now, our relationship to the ideal demands that we tread his path. Our self-esteem, our true mettle is measured on the scale of the passionate religious adherence. But, in this hour of crisis, are we standing by the religion? Are we doing what we are supposed to do to safeguard the religious ethics? Because the namesake Muslims were there in the past but they were pitched against him, not with him. Those namesake Muslims compromised the very basis of religious ethics of piety, humility, honor, prayer and fasting, the do's and do-not's. Whereas, he (Hussain r.a) was the custodian of these ethics. Where do we stand? Are we trying to step in his shoes? No, and this brings us to the brink of our current crisis."
