Trump Name To Be Removed From 3 NYC Buildings

Equity Residential has confirmed that it will be changing the name of three residential Trump Place buildings it owns to the street addresses in order “to assume a neutral building identity that appeals to all current and future residents.”
New York City is set to have three fewer apartment buildings bearing the Trump name.
The New York Times is reporting that affected residents of three such buildings were sent an email on Tuesday, stating, “This week, the Trump Place building names will change to the street addresses — 140, 160 and 180 Riverside Boulevard. The purpose of this change is to assume a neutral building identity that appeals to all current and future residents.”
It was sent by a representative of Equity Residential, which owns the buildings but had kept the exterior signage and other items with Trump's name after the purchase.
A spokesman for the company has also confirmed the change to The Guardian in a statement that echoed the email.
Some are speculating that the rebranding effort could have been prompted by a tenant-driven petition titled “Dump The TRUMP Name.”
According to its page on change.org, residents have asked Equity Residential to remove the president-elect’s name out of embarrassment.
They go on to cite his controversial attitudes towards women, immigrants, and the disabled, among other accusations, as reasons for the request.
