Toyota in $3.4 billion settlement over truck rust lawsuit

Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to a settlement up to $3.4 billion in a lawsuit brought by U.S. truck and SUV owners.
The federal class action suits claim the automaker’s vehicles lacked proper rust protection, causing premature corrosion of vehicle frames.
Under the settlement terms, Toyota will inspect the vehicles for 12 years from the day they were first sold or leased.
The automaker will then determine whether frames need to be replaced at the company's expense.
