Saturn’s rings are certainly stunning, and it appears that the closer one gets, the more mesmerizing they become.
On September 24, the Cassini spacecraft captured a detailed image of the circular surrounds from the relatively close proximity of about 283,000 miles.
NASA further notes of the stunning Saturn portrait, “This view looks toward the sunlit side of the rings from about 4 degrees above the ring plane. The image was taken in visible light with the Cassini spacecraft wide-angle camera.”
Scientists are still in a stage of debate regarding the formation history of the unique features.
It remain unknown if the rings have always been as they are now, or if their current state is a result of changes occurring over time.
