The Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources announced it is establishing a Ross Sea marine protection area. The joint agreement between New Zealand and the U.S. will protect 1.55 million square kilometers of the sea from "human activity." The protected area is intended to encourage biodiversity and shelter marine life.
