Cubs World Series shirts Streets are closing in Wrigleyville as crowds gather for Game 7 of the World Series between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians. The Cubs lead the Indians 6-3 after six innings.
Streets are closed between Racine, Grace, Wilton, Addison, Sheffield and Newport.
CTA Red Line trains are also bypassing the Addison stop. Riders should get off at Belmont four blocks south instead.
Dexter Fowler led off the World Series finale by sending a 2-1 pitch from Cleveland ace Corey Kluber over the wall in center, and Chicago led 1-0 after one inning.
Its the first leadoff home run in a winner-take-all Series game. Cleveland center fielder Rajai Davis made a leaping attempt to snare the fly at the wall, but it sailed over his glove. Fowler celebrated by spinning and yelling at the Cleveland dugout after rounding first.
The run jolted the already animated Cubs contingent in the stands. Progressive Field featured large swaths of blue and several loud chants of Lets Go Cubs during the pregame festivities and throughout the first inning. Kris Bryant was even serenaded by MVP! chants during his at-bat - a common occurrence this season at Wrigley Field.
It was the first leadoff homer allowed by Kluber this season. The last was Aug. 29, 2015 by Kole Calhoun.
Then Kris Bryant scored on Addison Russells sacrifice fly to shallow center field when Rajai Davis throw home came in high. Bryant slide safely under catcher Roberto Perezs tag for a 2-1 lead. Willson Contreras added on when he doubled off the wall to bring home Ben Zobrist.
Davis got a bad jump on Contreras fly, taking a step in before scrambling backward as the ball sailed through the warm November night and off the wall.
Then second baseman Javier Baez hit a solo home run at the top of the 5th inning.
After swapping Kyle Hendricks for Jon Lester the Cubs had a rocky bottom of the fifth as the Indians scored twice and closed the gap to 5-3. And then at the top of the 6th inning catcher David Ross hit a solo homer.
