Pope Francis recently said that the Catholic Church is unlikely to ordain female priests any time soon or, perhaps, ever, reports ABC News.
The pope made the prediction on Tuesday after being asked by a journalist if he thought the Catholic Church would someday see a female bishop or priest.
Pope Francis replied, “Saint Pope John Paul II had the last clear word on this and it stands," which means no.
That reporter then asked, “Forever, forever? Never, never?"
Pope Francis again cited the determination of the late and recently sainted pope, commenting, “If we read carefully the declaration by St. John Paul II, it is going in that direction."
The statement in question was made in 1994 and reads, in part, “I declare that the Church has no authority whatsoever to confer priestly ordination on women..."
