Beyond the headlines: Who is Huma Abedin

Huma Abedin, a longtime aid to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, is in the spotlight after a FBI investigation surrounding the politician’s use of a private email server while she was Secretary of State. Abedin was born in Michigan in 1976, but spent most of her childhood in Saudi Arabia, returning to the United States to attend George Washington University when she was 18. Abedin started working for Clinton as an intern in 1996 when Clinton was the First Lady. Over the years Huma has served in several positions. She has been Hillary’s “body woman,” her traveling chief of staff, a senior adviser, and a deputy chief of staff when Hillary was secretary of state. Abedin has had her fair share of controversy working with Clinton. It is claimed that her family has been connected to the Muslim Brotherhood organizations. Abedin married former congressman Anthony Weiner in 2010. The wedding was officiated by former President Bill Clinton. The emails that are at the center of the FBI reopening its investigation were uncovered after the FBI seized devices belonging to Abedin and Weiner. She speaks English, Hindi, Urdu languages, and Arabic.
