White House: Obama Doesn't Think Comey Is Trying To Influence Election Outcome

White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Monday that President Obama is not among those who see ill will in FBI Director James Comey's recent announcement concerning emails and Hillary Clinton.

FBI Director James Comey has been criticized by numerous high-profile politicians since revealing, just over a week before the election, plans to investigate newly discovered emails that may be related to Hillary Clinton.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Monday that President Obama is not among those who see ill will in the director’s announcement.
During a press briefing, Earnest noted, "The president does not believe that Director Comey is intentionally trying to influence the outcome of an election. The president does not believe that he is secretly strategizing to benefit one candidate or one political party."
He further commented, “The president thinks very highly of Director Comey. And yes, you can assert that he still has confidence in his ability to do his job."
