During a visit to London, U.K. on Monday, Secretary of State John Kerry sat alongside the city's mayor, Sadiq Khan, and answered questions from a number of local students.
When asked about the impact the U.S. presidential race has had on relations with other nations, Kerry was quite frank, responding, “This election has been difficult for our country's perception abroad. There are moments when it is downright embarrassing.”
He also commented, “I could never imagine debates that were not focused on real issues."
Kerry did go on to offer hope that any existing or future fallout will not be long lasting, noting, “…the great thing about the United States is that it has amazing resiliency. It has an incredible ability to absorb something like this and…come out stronger…sometimes we go through these really rough moments politically and you just have to fight through them."
