On Saturday, New York Magazine reported that at the time, the GOP candidate apparently had no knowledge of what the Khan’s distinction as a Gold Star family meant.
Soon after Trump launched the war of words, he was reportedly asked by an adviser, “You do know you just attacked a Gold Star family?”
According to the publication, Trump's response was, “What’s that?”
It was also revealed that Trump allegedly attempted to defend his actions by citing a Breitbart article in which Khizr Khan was said to support Sharia law.
In response, then campaign manager Paul Manafort reportedly said, “He’s not running for president.”
