EU and Canada to sign CETA trade deal on Sunday

After weeks of deadlock, the EU and Canada say they will sign a landmark trade deal on Sunday.
Claiming it was ‘‘Mission Accomplished, European Council President Donald Tusk announced in a tweet that he and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau would hold a summit in Brussels.
Describing it as great news, Trudeau also took to Twitter to confirm he would be there for Sunday’s signing ceremony.
The announcement came after parliamentarians in Belgium’s French-speaking region of Wallonia did a u-turn and approved the CETA trade agreement on Friday, after initially blocking it.
Opponents of CETA say the deal, which could partially enter into force next year, will strengthen multinationals and degrade food, environmental and labour standards.
