West York, Pennsylvania will be getting a new mayor on October 21, as the current mayor, Charles Wasko, recently resigned in the wake of backlash over racist, anti-Obama sentiments he posted to Facebook in June.
One featured an image of wheelbarrow full of orangutans and the caption, “Aww...moving day at the Whitehouse has finally arrived."
According to Reuters, another was a still from a movie showing Clint Eastwood holding a noose. Its text read, “Barry, this rope is for you. You wanna bring that empty chair over here!"
Barry is said to be President Obama’s childhood nickname.
Though Wasko voluntarily relinquished his mayor's position, he has stood behind the Facebook posts.
He told WHTM last month, “The racist stuff, yeah. I’ll admit I did that, and I don’t care what people label me as."
