HOUSTON, TEXAS — Residents of a Southwest Houston neighborhood in Texas awoke Monday to gunshots when a disgruntled lawyer carried out a mass shooting.

KTRK reports that around 6:30 a.m., a lawyer dressed in a Nazi military uniform began open firing at passing cars on Law Street in West University Place.

The suspect randomly shot at the drivers, shattering windows and windshields and injuring nine people.

When Houston police arrived, they engaged the suspect in a standoff, eventually killing him. Multiple weapons were found on him, including a .45 semi-automatic Thompson carbine rifle, a .45 semi-automatic handgun, and a knife still in its sheath. Both firearms were obtained legally, according to the New York Times.

Local reports have identified the gunman as Nathan DeSai, though police have not officially named him as the shooter. A black Porsche Boxster registered to DeSai searched by officers was found to contain 2,600 rounds of live ammunition and various Nazi paraphernalia.

Authorities believe DeSai was a lone gunman and not connected to any terror group. Although a solid motive has yet to be pinned down, they do think the suspect’s recent money and business troubles play a big factor in his actions.
