Third night of protests in Charlotte following fatal police shooting of Keith L. Scott

Charlotte, North Carolina, has seen a third night of protests following the fatal shooting by a black police officer of Keith Lamont Scott.
Speculation surrounds the incident, with officers on the scene saying the 43-year-old was armed and other witnesses saying he was holding a book.
Charlotte Police Chief Kerr Putney said there is no “definitive, visual evidence” a person was pointing a gun, but the “totality of all of the other evidence” supports the police account of events.
The family has seen the video of the incident and has joined calls for it to be made public. Their lawyer, Justin Bamberg, said it was impossible to tell whether Scott was holding anything when he was shot, adding that his hands were by his side.

A state of emergency is underway in the city and a curfew in place, after rallies on previous nights turned violent, resulting in the death of at least one person.
