UN to resume aid deliveries in Syria

A backlog of aid lorries has built up on the Syrian-Turkish border.

The hope is this will now ease as the UN resumes deliveries suspended after the loss of a relief convoy near Aleppo on Monday.

Officials say shipments will begin to unspecified destinations as early as Thursday.

However, they say Aleppo is not one of them.

What is the situation on the ground?

Agencies report that Syrian rebels and pro-government forces are battling each other along major front lines near Aleppo and Hama.

Air strikes have reportedly killed at least a dozen people, including four medical workers.

The renewed fighting demonstrates the slim prospects for reviving the truce that collapsed into fresh fighting and bombardments on Monday.

An estimated six million people live in hard-to-reach or besieged areas in Syria.
