Dallas Mavericks OJ Mayo says the Mavericks need to step it without Dirk Nowitzki. The Mavericks will be playing without Nowitzki who had knee surgery last week. As the Dallas Mavericks prepare to play The Los Angeles Lakers tonight in its first game of this years 2012-2013 NBA season. The Lakers have made some off season moves by obtaining Steve Nash and Dwight Howard to make them the favorite to win the Western Conference. The Mavericks also made some moves during the off season by obtaining OJ Mayo, Darren Collison, Chris Kaman and the recent signing of Center Eddy Curry.
