Duke is 1-2 on the year with the 24-13 road defeat to the Northwestern Wildcats as a +4 point underdog. The total went under 44 points. Third down conversions was the downfall for the Blue Devils as they convert just 5 of 17 chances. They rushed for 117 yards on 34 carries which was 3.4 yards per average. Daniel Jones hit on 27 of 48 passes for 279 yards and a touchdown. On defense Duke allowed 320 yards passing yards and three touchdowns passes by Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson.

Notre Dame fell to 1-2 following the 36-28 home defeat to the Michigan St Spartans as a -7 ½ point favorite. The total went over 50 points. The Fighting Irish allowed the game to get away in the third quarter by surrendering 21 third quarter points. Notre Dame had no run game going rushing for 57 yards on 25 carries. DeShone Kizer hit on 20 of 37 passes for 344 yards with two touchdowns and a pick. Defensively the Fighting Irish allowed 501 yards to the Spartans with 260 rushing yards for 5 yards per attempt.
