President Obama quickly dismissed questions that have arisen again about the true place of his birth.
He told reporters on Friday, “I’m shocked that a question like that would come up at a time when we’ve got so many other things to do. Well, I’m not that shocked actually, it’s fairly typical. We got other business to attend to. I was pretty confident about where I was born. I think most people were as well...My hope would be that the presidential election reflects more serious issues than that.”
The media refocused on the issue because on Wednesday, Trump reportedly dodged a question about the president being born in Hawaii.
However, in a Friday morning press appearance, the GOP candidate admitted that he believes Obama was born in the U.S., reports the Washington Post.
Trump said, "Hillary Clinton and her campaign of 2008 started the birther controversy. I finished it...President Barack Obama was born in the United States. Period."
