Frangi Cupido i dardi
Cantate per alto e basso continuo del Settecento napoletano
Leandro Marziotte, Nicola Brovelli, Diego Leverić, Luigi Accardo

First jury and audience prizes at the International Händel Competition 2014 in Göttingen, Germany, countertenor Leandro Marziotte performs regularly as a soloist with groups such as Le Parlement de Musique (Martin Gester), Ricercar Consort (Philippe Pierlot), and the Chamber Choir Namur (Leonardo García Alarcón). Here he releases his debut solo album with a programme devoted to the most widespread genre of Neapolitan music of the first half of 18th century, that of the continuo cantata. This very important genre is still largely unexplored: indeed all the cantatas featured here are first recordings, with just one exception. From Alessandro Scarlatti (1660-1725), the founder of the Neapolitan school, to three composers from the next generation – Leonardo Vinci (1690-1730), Leonardo Leo (1694-1744) and Johann Adolph Hasse (1699-1783) –, the six cantatas encompasse a broad range of affetti, highlighting the qualities of the gifted Uruguayan singer, about whom we will be hearing a lot more.
