According to WGNO, 58-year-old Jerry Kan was arrested on Monday and charged with first-degree rape.
The alleged incident occurred at Beau Provence Memory Care Facility on August 21.
Kan resigned from his job, which he had held since April, two days later.
WGNO reports that this was his first time being employed at an assisted living facility, but, according to a statement from the home, there was nothing on his record that indicated he posed a threat.
According to The Times‑Picayune, Kan is described as being a family man who served as a U.S. Marine.
Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.
