A toddler who had been declared brain dead was taken off life support in California on Thursday despite his family’s efforts to keep him alive.

According to KCRA, two-year-old Israel Stinson was hospitalized in April after a severe asthma attack “deprived him of oxygen for more than 30 minutes.”
A doctor at UC Davis Medical Center determined that he was brain dead after attempting to resuscitate him.
Since then, his family fought to keep the boy on life support, citing his small physical movements as evidence that he could still survive.
They even transferred him to different hospitals including one in Guatemala where tests reportedly indicated brain activity.
However, earlier this month, the toddler was transferred to Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles which, after a legal back-and-forth with the family, was allowed by an appeals judge to remove his ventilator.
The boy is believed to have died around 3:15 pm on Thursday.
His father has since said that the family intends to file a lawsuit against the hospital, notes KCRA.
