Birbal was a true friend and the minister of Emperor Akbar. Akbar always asked for his opinion before taking any decision. Birbal had the last word in all the matters of the state. Hence, many courtiers were jelous of Birbal. They wanted to remove Birbal from the post of the minister. So they conspired against him.
The courtiers approached the Emperor and said, " Your Majesty! Your court is adorned by Tansen, one of the greatest musicians of the world.."
Akbar said, " Of course, I know that. So what ?"
The courtiers said, " Your Majesty, don't you think that instead of Birbal, Tansen should be your minister?"
Akbar said, " I cannot give Tansen the post of the minister without testing him. I f he passes my tast, I assure you that I will make him the minister.". The courtiers were glad tyo hear this.
Akbar called Tansen and Birbal. He wrote a letter, sealed it and gave it to them. He said, " Go to the Emperor of Iran right now. Hand over this letter to him and bring back his reply to me."
Tansen and Birbal immediately left for Iran. On reaching there, they handed over Akbar's letter to the Emperor of Iran. The Emperor read the letter. It said, " The bearers of this letter should be immediately sent to the gallows."
