Bulgarian runner Silvia Danekova has tested positive for a banned substance in Rio. She has been temporarily suspended pending a B sample test.

The 3,000-metre steeplechase athlete tested positive for banned blood booster erythropoietin (EPO) on her arrival in Brazil on July 26 to compete in the Olympic Games.

The Bulgarian Olympic Committee’s Secretary General Belcho Goranov told reporters “unfortunately, we have a positive test,” but declined the name the competitor.

The country has been marred by several doping cases, including its weightlifting team, which was banned from competing in Rio.
