Police were called when 27-year-old Vanessa Marcotte, who lived in New York City, didn’t return home from her afternoon run.
At roughly 8:30 p.m., several hours after Marcotte’s disappearance was reported, her body was located, notes Boston Globe.
Authorities are investigating the death as a homicide, and an autopsy is being performed.
Area residents are being advised to exercise caution, as it has not yet been determined if the fatal attack was random.
Only days ago, a woman out for a run near her Queens, New York home fell victim to murder as well.
Authorities say at this point in the investigation there is no indication the two deaths are linked.
