Many states are accused of having the worst drivers in the nation, and to get to the bottom of which ones actually earn that distinction, SmartAsset did some research.
It gathered and assessed National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data regarding number of insured motorists, DUI offenses, vehicular-related deaths, and reviewed Google trends regarding ‘driving tickets.’
Calculations based on those factors suggest Florida drivers are the country’s most problematic, largely due to the state’s high percentage of uninsured drivers.
The southeast in general didn’t come out well, with Mississippi, Alabama and Tennessee also placing in the top 10 at 2nd, 6th, and 8th, respectively.
Oklahoma, with its high number of DUIs and road fatalities landed in the 3rd spot.
New Jersey also experiences a high number of driving-related deaths, contributing to its 4th place distinction.
For a similar reason, Delaware came in 5th.
The remainder of the top slots went to Vermont, Texas, and Nevada.
