BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA — A teen was allegedly fired from his fast food job for giving a veteran free food.

Alex Mesta, 19, was reportedly fired from a Jack in the Box in Bakersfield, California.

Mesta admitted to previously giving a regular customer, who is a veteran, free coffee, which he said cost less than a dollar.

One night, Mesta gave the vet two tacos, valued at $0.99. He said the tacos were leftovers and would have been discarded anyway at the end of the day. The act was caught on surveillance camera shortly before the teen was let go from his job.

Mesta believed he was fired for his altruistic actions. However, in a statement released by Jack in the Box corporate office, the company said the decision was based on previous employee infractions and had “nothing to do with the guest’s military experience.”
