At least five people are dead after a charter bus carrying 30 people swerved and crashed into a pole in California’s Central Valley Tuesday. California Highway Patrol said the bus was heading north on Highway 99 near Livingston in Mercer County at around 3:25 a.m. local time. Five passengers, some with severe injuries, including missing limbs, were airlifted to local hospitals, authorities said. Emergency workers pulled out trapped passengers through the windows, while others were ejected and lying in ditches.
