HOUSTON — The University of Houston’s student government vice president has been punished by the student senate after she wrote in a since deleted post, “Forget #BlackLivesMatter; more like #AllLivesMatter” on her Facebook.
Student body veep Rohini Sethi has been suspended by the Student Government Association and is temporarily banned from participating in group activities, according to the Houston Chronicle.
According to ABC 13, Sethi was handed down five sanctions including a 50-day suspension which starts Aug. 1, mandatory attendance of the Libra Project diversity workshop, mandatory attendance of three cultural events per month, a reflection letter and a public representation in a senate meeting on Sep. 28.
The Student Government President Shane Smith was given authority this one time to determine Sethi’s suspension by the Student Senate, according to ABC 13.
It was passed with 13 votes of approval, two against and one abstaining, ABC 13 reported.
Sethi could lose her post in the student government if she doesn’t meet the demands.
The university released a statement on Monday reiterating that the sanctions were handed down by the student group and not the school itself, according to the Houston Chronicle.
Sethi posted the comment after five Dallas police officers were shot and killed last month. She quickly deleted and apologized for the post.
Some students at the university called for her to resign after the controversial statement. The Houston Chronicle reported that #RemoveRohini was trending in Houston for several days following the post.
