Road rage fail? SUV smashes into cars on Texas highway: Was driver asleep at the wheel? - TomoNews

GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS — An SUV was caught on camera hitting vehicles on a Texas highway before rolling off the road into an embankment.

Brian Dereta’s dashcam filmed the bumper-car style incident as he drove at 70 mph westbound on the I-20 in Grand Prairie, Texas, on July 11.

“I noticed this SUV very close to my rear bumper, then it backed off straddling two lanes behind me acting weird,” Dereta said.

The SUV backed off at first, but then out of nowhere slammed into the back of Dereta’s vehicle.

Afterwards, the SUV could be seen on dashcam slamming into vehicles on the highway. The SUV sideswiped one vehicle then proceeded to speed towards a truck, rear ending and spinning it out of control. The SUV’s driver then lost control and ended up rolling down an embankment.

A 4-year-old boy was a passenger in the SUV, Dereta said. “The boy seemed OK but he took a ride in the ambulance. He did not appear hurt,” Dereta said.

At first glance, it seems the SUV driver had an extreme case of road rage. But, commenters on Dereta’s video believe there’s more to the story. Most are guessing the driver suffered an impairing health issue. Some suggested the driver must have fallen asleep at the wheel.
