Monday night, thunderstorms passing through Darlington, South Carolina claimed the lives of two area shelter dogs, reports WBTW.
Named Cora and Amelia, the animals were in kennels when lightning struck.
The electricity traveled through the metal housings and electrocuted both of them.
Staffers at the DCHS Rescue have set up a YouCaring crowdfunding campaign to help make improvements to the facility.
The appeal for donations reads, in part, “We are here today to make sure they are not forgotten and other pets at the shelter now and in the future are safe and not the victim of old wiring and an old shelter design.”
