KARACHI: Revered social worker Abdul Sattar Edhi has passed away Friday night after a prolonged illness in Karachi. He was 88. Tributes swiftly poured in from different circles shortly after the news of his sad demise started going rounds.
Mr. Edhi’s funeral prayers will be offered after Zuhr prayers on Saturday (July 9) at National Stadium, said his son Faisal Edhi, underlining that the venue was earlier Memon Masjid, but it had been changed due to expected attendance of large number of his admirers.
He will be laid to rest at Edhi Village, Super Highway.
According to Faisal Edhi, Mr. Edhi had prepared his will wherein he wished to donate his body organs post his death to the needy. His eyes has been donated, while other organs could not be given away due to his poor health.
Social media quickly lit up in honour of the man whose work uplifting the nation’s destitute and orphans cemented his place in the hearts of our nation.
Earlier in the day, Edhi was shifted to the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) after he developed respiratory problems. He was then moved to Intensive Care Unit of the hospital. The SIUT officials had later confirmed that Abdul Sattar Edhi has been placed on ventilator.
Edhi’s funeral prayer will be offered today (Saturday) at the National Stadium Karachi at 1:30 PM after which he will be laid to rest at Edhi village in a grave that was dug around 25 years ago.
