Those who are afraid of talking about religion only help atheism spread

BULENT SEZGIN: In his latest interview, Etyen Mahçupyan referred to Erdogan without openly mentioning him that he had an effect on the decrease of AKP’s votes. He writes in his article: "Saying the Kurdish problem is solved, saying that there is no need for further negotiations is considered a political discourse. But when you talk about Zoroastrianism, or use the Quran in public meetings, it goes beyond the scope of politics. Look at Erdogan's speech in Urfa; he got a negative reaction from the religious people of Urfa. These people didn't change their opinions and vote for HDP because they are more Kurdish than before, or support AKP any less; they voted for HDP because they are pious. There is a limit to the extent of referring to religion in politics. There is a limit to the extent of spreading religion to the public space."

ADNAN OKTAR: Mr.Erdogan, indeed, gave such an impression. But, on the other hand, most leaders never mention religion in their statements. What Mr. Erdogan did was setting an example for other leaders, which is in fact the right move. He read the Quran at the top of his lungs. Why don't the other leaders do it as well? For example, Ilhan Kesici [a member of parliament and CHP] loudly read Surah al-Fatiha at the funeral of the late Mr. Demirel [former President of the Turkey]. Where is the harm in that? On the contrary, there is good in it as this inspires people to be more religious. Many people do not know that Ilhan Kesici is a religious person, so this way he left such good impression on people. Other politicians should also follow his example, if they can. People say, "Don't mention religion and turn it into a political tool." But religion would cease to exist if you didn't let people mention it. Some people are irritated whenever God's name is mentioned. Why? They say, "Because you do harm to secularism," or "It would mean exploiting religion." Wouldn't it mean you are helping atheism spread when you do the opposite? Let people mention religion, don't prevent them. For example, someone who is a Yeni Asya Board Member and a member of the Nur Movement read Risale-i Nur, which was nice. They try to erase Risale-i Nur from people's memories.
