Infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar has been dead for more than 20 years, but his legacy is living on in a rather surprising way, notes The Telegraph.
Though authorities dealt with most of Escobar’s known associates, they allowed the hippos kept at the man’s Colombian estate to carry on as usual.
According to Fusion, over the years, the animals have thrived, and while there were once only 4 of them, roughly 30 now roam the area.
In general, people love hippos, so they have proven to be a popular tourist attraction.
However, many locals are concerned about the threats the animals present to both humans and the environment, reports the National Geographic.
Hippos are considered to be very dangerous due to their massive size, sharp teeth, and highly territorial nature.
Notably there haven’t been any serious run-ins, but there have been some tense moments.
Just last year, one of them showed up in the yard of an area elementary school.
Local authorities are currently investigating ways to contain the herd without putting the hippos in danger.
