It’s a monumental duel. Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are set to go head to head for a huge prize: who will be the next president of the United States of America?
Both candidates have been flexing their muscles and the verbal battle is already bruising. In the red corner: the Republican Donald Trump has been tongue-lashing the establishment. In the blue corner, for the Democrats, Hillary Clinton is bringing her many years in public office into the ring.

So who’s going to win? Donald Trump - seen as the voice of angry Americans? Or Hillary Clinton - for her supporters the voice of reason?

Erik Kirschbaum is originally from New York and now works as a correspondent for the LA Times in Berlin. He says: “There is a lot of anger and frustration in the United States and Europe that manifests itself in surprisingly strong support for anti establishment candidates like trump, sanders, hofer and le pen. But it is hard to imagine Americans electing anyone but Clinton in November.”

Rieke Havertz works as an online editor at Zeit Online and writes about US politics and the current presidential election. She says: “One of the biggest challenges for Hillary Clinton in this race is to convince voters who feel that the American Dream is dead that her conventional qualities as a candidate matter more than Donald Trump's populism.”

Christiane Meier worked several years as a correspondent for the german public network ARD in Washington. Now she is based in the ARD-office in Berlin. She thinks: “We look with shock and no awe at a US campaign, where many people follow a man, who would be fired from any school for his hateful, racist, impolite and aggressive remarks. The last thing the worlds needs is Donald Trump in the White House.”
