NEW YORK — A Chinese-American woman claims she was verbally harassed and humiliated by a clerk at a Dunkin’ Donuts store in New York last month.

In a Facebook post written on May 31, Peiyin Shih said that she walked into the shop in Forest Hills, Queens with her 1-year-old son and nanny on May 30.

When she asked for a glazed chocolate donut, a clerk told her he couldn’t understand what she was saying, and that she’d have to read the whole name of the donut. Peiyin said she pointed again to the chocolate donut and the clerk continued to play dumb.

When she asked for his name to report the incident, the clerk pointed to his nametag and asked “Do you know how to say it?”

Soon after, a customer walked in the store and joined in on the racist bully session, calling Peiyin an immigrant. Peiyin whipped out her phone and took photos of the two men.

Later that day, Peiyin posted about her horrible experience to Dunkin’ Donuts’ Facebook page. The company responded that her experience “in no way represents our company’s strong commitment to the fair treatment and well-being of all guests.”

Dunkin’ Donuts said the franchisee who operates the store had informed them the clerk no longer worked there.
