His world is inhabited by the same people every day, but they are unaware that Groundhog Day keeps repeating itself. This gives Phil a certain advantage: he’s able to know what a woman is looking for in a man, and then behave exactly as he needs to in order to impress her the “next day”. Luckily there is a woman near him with whom he can practice. It’s Rita (Andie MacDowell), Phil’s tough long-time producer, who over the years has been forced to put up with his crises, demands, and belligerence. Bit by bit, Phil is able to recognize his mistakes and improve his behaviour until finally Groundhog Day comes and goes and Rita falls in love with him.
