Every year, roughly 3,500 button batteries end up being swallowed by people in the U.S., and the consequences can be quite serious. Recently, researchers created a tiny origami robot that can not only remove the objects, but potentially heal the wounds they may have caused.

Every year, roughly 3,500 button batteries end up being swallowed by people in the U.S., and the consequences can be quite serious.
Recently, researchers hailing from MIT, the Tokyo Institute of Technology, and the University of Sheffield created a tiny origami robot that can not only remove the objects, but potentially heal the wounds they may have caused.
The apparatus is housed inside of an easily swallowed capsule, and once the little machine is in the stomach it expands and is controlled by external magnetic fields.
